Getting my Aircon fitted next week...I cannot wait! Just in 2 bedrooms but it's going to be amazing!

Mynewnameis · 17/08/2023 16:35

Had it put in the warmest bedroom and it's amazing. Big ugly box on wall outside though. Inside unit looks OK and is quiet. I'd love it in every room but then there would be more ugly boxes.

I got a big unit put on the ground outside and have three air con units running off that one big unit. It's down the side of the house so no one sees it. Also no chance of it making my house vibrate as on the ground. Just posting in case helpful to others.

Would uou say how much it costing? And approx location?

I know ceiling fans are a bit naff from a decor point of view but we have one in our bedroom & it makes a huge difference on a hot night!

We had a really old one that rattled but last year bought a new with a remote control it's almost silent & absolutely brilliant!

About £3k all in, so units, install, electrical work, trunking to make it look tidy outside etc. I'm in Norfolk.

Did you use a local company?
I'm just outside Cambridge so costs maybe a bit higher but probably not significantly so.
I've had solar panels installed this year, via a local council buying scheme - it was meant to happen last year and when it was so hot last summer I said I was going to get aircon when the panels were in - run them in the day to keep the rooms cool while the electricity is free (although there is an opportunity cost of not exporting it to the grid of course).

Also liking the idea of ceiling vents into the bedroom which kokotheguerilla mentioned.
Does this mean it cools all the rooms, or can you control each room separately?

They're based in Norfolk but also cover Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Purposefully didn't pick a national company and also went for someone who can provide the whole service, some don't do the electrical work, and also knowing that id there's a problem there is someone to call rather than a call centre!
Sounds a great idea to get air con with solar panels, no brainer really.
I am concerned about energy bills but we have a portable aircon now and there's no way that this will be as expensive as that is to run lol. We live in a new build which easily reaches 30deg and above in the bedrooms in the height of summer, family members with asthma and one with severe ezcema who suffer badly in the heat at night so that's how I'm justifying it haha!

Had it for about 10 years, in lounge and main bedroom. Big box sits outside. It's fabulous.

Oblomov23 · 17/08/2023 21:45

Here's what our lounge unit looks like.
