Explanation: In the southern US where I grew up church attendees had their regular pew spot to sit...these weren't assigned or anything, but most people respected the unwritten rule that Mrs.Smith had been sitting in the pew at the front for 50 years and so on. Everything was copacetic until a visitor had the audacity to sit in Mrs.Smith's spot...when she discovered that her seat was taken she'd most likely tell the visitor ' that seat is MINE' of course, most of us would about die of embarrassment for the poor visitor who then would sheepishly move to another spot.
