8yo with anxiety-any tips?

8 year old DS has had anxiety ‘episode’ last night after being told off for rude/difficult behaviour. Saying things like he needs to punish himself, that he makes mistakes all the time and that his brain is telling him all this is true (it isn’t by the way- he’s a great kid 99% of the time -happy, tries hard at school, very loving etc).

Anyone have any tips for me on how best to handle this? And how I can help him to handle this?

tried posting under child mental health but no replies so hoping someone will come along here with some wise words :)

DD had an anxious about the same age. We found Helen Kennerley's book "Overcoming Anxiety" to be useful.

Hi OP we used a book called starving the anxiety gremlin at that age. It worked well.

@user1477249785 this book has just been recommended to us by a child physchologist. We are currently working our way through it. So glad you found it helpful.
