Been on here for years, name change, just in case. Typing for my brother.
His DS is 2 and we are due to go on a big family holiday to France, to celebrate my Grandma’s big birthday.
8 weeks ago they applied for DNS first passport, so he could join us. It was delayed but in the end my brother got hold of someone who said it was being printed, if he got to Newport he could pick it up.
When he got there his son’s passport had the wrong date of birth on it, it made him 1 years old. DB knew he’d put the right one on the form. The passport office checked and said, yes, it was their mistake and they would reprint his passport.
BUT it won’t be ready in time for the holiday next week and the only thing they can suggest is that my brother talk to the airport and see if they will let the family fly.
My family are gutted. My Grandma is gutted, although very stoic, it is likely to be her last holiday abroad.
What would you do? Try and go to the airport and plead ignorance. Will they notice the wrong date of birth? Will they just look at the picture and her name? What are the chances?
Phone the airport and risk them just saying they can’t go?
Just not go?
Complain to an MP, owner of the passport company, mayor, anyone who might listen? (This is a joke, it’s where I go in times of worry).
We have asked the passport office who have said they cannot write and official letter, saying they screwed up, even though they screwed up.
Thanks for any replies. I will be busy for a couple of hours but any help will be gratefully received, especially from people who work in airports.
