8 week old baby has mottled skin. I should really know the answer but have forgotten.

I would be taking baby to see the doctor. How is baby in themselves? Are they drowsy? Irritable? Hard to wake up?

Go to a doctor

Call 111, they can do a video call with you and advise if needs to be seen. Is there temperature high?

Baby skin can look mottled on hands etc. when they are cold due to poor circulation. Is baby unwell or have you any cause for alarm? If you're worried about anything with such a young baby then call your GP.

Actually in babies they say that mottling and no temperature/fever can be a bad sign, so if he tempted to take to a&e or urgent care.
I've had to take my kids twice with mottling when babies and both had group b strep, so better to be safe than sorry.

My DS hands used to do this. It would go when I rubbed his hands to warm them up.

If your baby is fine otherwise and it disappears when they’re hands are warmed up, I wouldn’t be worried personally.

This has been my experience, but is not a substitute for medical advice. If you’re worried you should always seek help.
