Facebook Hacking

My Facebook account has been hacked - email, password and mobile number all changed. I did get notification emails but by the time I saw them it was too late.

I have tried recovering my account but Facebook can't find it by searching on my email, name or password. Am going round and round in circles!

I can see my account via looking at my husband's account. Have tried getting support to recover it via his account but no joy.

Any advice much appreciated!!

Surely if it can be seen via your friends Facebook can see it too?

Have you tried googling what to do if you think your Facebook account has been hacked and following the steps on there?

@WeAreTheHeroes Yes they can. I have googled it too but again no joy as the hacker changed my email, mobile and password. It is like banging your head off a wall, going round in circles!

First change all your passwords and add 2FA to everything that lets you have it

Second check have I been pwned to find out where the breach came from

Third get everyone you know to report the account and get it deleted. It's lost.

@Changethatnameagain2 Thanks but when friends try to report I am not showing as a friend on the options, even though they could find and view my account

They should still be able to report it I think there is an option to say the person is fake/impersonating you

Your priority though needs to be locking down your other accounts.

The only thing I could do via DH's FB was to submit the account for review. When I clicked on impersonating a friend, my name didn't appear in the friend list

It was under Report Profile

First off, stop it happening again and figure out how they did it.
Change every password, turn on 2FA.
Check all your email addresses against Have I Been Pwned?

The most common cause of losing an account like this is using the same password for multiple accounts, and one of them gets compromised in a data breach. You are then vulnerable for every other account that uses the same login (your email address) and password.

Hi OP, I know this thread is a few months old now but did you have any luck?? Same thing has happened to me and again, just going round in circles! I have even submitted my passport photo as proof of ID but all recovery codes etc are going to the new hacker’s email. So frustrating!

I couldn't even get to the stage of providing my ID. Hacker has changed everything- email, phone number and password

Just to add...same here! The hacker changes your e mail address to theirs and their mobile, and at this point there seems to be no way of recovering your account even when you report to Facebook that this has happened. There is, as far as I could ascertain, no way to communicate with an actual person for help at Facebook . I've given up 😔

@sociallubricant Facebook need to improve their fraud reporting systems!! I found a reporting email address but never got a reply
