Is house sitting weird?

A friend has asked us to house sit for them when they go on holiday. They don't have any pets but they do have a very big garden. We are going to go in August so will take care of the plants.

They live in a very big house in the middle of some beautiful countryside, swimming pool, tennis courts, places to sit et cetera.

DH was onboard with the idea, as he is WFH, but now he thinks it's a bit weird. And he's kind of asking himself why we've been invited to house sit. I have known said friend for about 10 years, but only really started seeing them more than once or twice a year within the last two years.

Why is it weird? They obviously trust you and are confident that you would look after their home, which sounds amazing.

Sounds like it might be for security - would you want to leave a house like that empty?
