Road Accident Investigator

Hi everyone!

DS (year 10) is interested in becoming a road accident investigator. Does anyone out there (or their friends and family) do this role? How did you/they get into it, via the police, a uni course, or another way? What sort of qualities would you say an investigator needs?

From watching the sort of programmes that they appear on, it appears they’re traffic officers who go on to specialise in accident investigation so his best direction is probably the local force recruitment office who should be able how to prepare for that direction within the police.

Thanks @LovedFedAndNoonesDead I'll suggest he looks in that direction.

I know of two people who worked in this area. One was an animator who ended up doing niche evidence videos for court so he was not actually an investigator directly but worked with them to provide visualisations with precision for juries to see exactly what happened in the reconstruction videos. The other one was a policeman originally and then retired and went into this work.

By the way, current terminology is moving away from using the word "accident" in favour of collision.
