Broadband Q Sky/Virgin

Hello! Just looking for advice please from more tech savvy folk than me!
I have cancelled my VirginMedia account today. I only use their Broadband yet they still insist on giving me a TV package and landline deal along with a SIM card for another mobile phone, despite me repeatedly telling them that we only use their Broadband.
We stream any tv we watch, never watch live TV and don't have a landline. My bill went from £41 a month to £81 and despite negotiations could only get it to £52. So I've cancelled.
My question is (long winded I know!) we all have our mobiles - can we just hotspot from our phones to watch the TV? I'm not sure about the gaming aspect for my teenage son though?
Had a look at Sky and they have an offer on that includes Netflix, which could be good for us as we do use Netflix.
Are Sky any good? Any advice or words of wisdom please? Many thanks 😊

Your hotspot might be enough for TV (I've done it in the past and it's hit and miss) but it's very very unlikely to be good enough for gaming. I would be expecting to pay around £25 a month for just broadband, have a look at one of the sites like uswitch, and you can generally get good cashback deals. I've been with most of the main suppliers and to be honest there's nothing much between them - fine when it's working, all a bit rubbish if something goes wrong!

Also check the actual broadband speeds available in your street. We have virgin because it's the fastest (and most reliable) by a huge margin where we are. Other providers say they have the same speed but when you check it isn't anywhere near as good.

I also discovered that broadband only is very expensive from virgin and it was much cheaper to sign up to a new package of TV, landline and broadband lasting 1 year (they bettered a new sign up offer) than to try to only have broadband.

Thank you for the replies! So today Virgin rang me to offer me a deal! £28 instead of the final offer yesterday of £51!!!

I had a tv package with Virgin, said i just wanted broadband and if you sign into another contract with them i think it was 18 months. its only £19 a month..

Oh wow! I thought that I was doing well at £28! How absolutely crazy?!!!
