Daughter having gastroscopy. How long will she need off school?

My 9 yo daughter is having a gastroscopy soon. I think we have all the main info and DD is now feeling okay about the procedure after a good chat with the doctor. She has asked me how long she’ll need off school. I assume she’ll be well enough to return the next day but I wondered if I’m right with that? I’ve read some stuff online saying to keep a close eye for 24 hours. Would I be best to keep her home the following day? Thanks.

I'd give her the next day off. I never found it a pleasant procedure and always felt I deserved a day off work after to"recover".

Is she having sedation for it? If so, the next day off school. It’s not a nice procedure, what with the fasting beforehand and a sore throat afterwards.

Yes, she’ll be sedated.

Thanks, I think I’ll just organise in advance with school for her to have the two days off.

She will be getting the gas to fall asleep, then they will fully sedate her. That’s my understanding.
