Having my coil replaced in an hour and I'm scared

I didn't find putting it in to be too bad but I'm scared of having it taken out. How bad is it? No don't answer...is it worse than going in? Ugh this is horrible! I love the coil though I want it replaced but I'm scared about the coming out 😭

I need to get mine done soon. I read it was only as uncomfortable as going in, which sounds fine for you. But mine was horrendous! Took several attempts and maneuvering me about. Apparently I have a tilted cervix. I've liked having it but not sure I can face another one going in.

OrlandointheWilderness · 15/05/2023 14:46

Mine was horrific to put in and absolutely pain free to take out.

1990s · 15/05/2023 14:47

I’ve had three taken out and it was always near painless and over in seconds.

Getting the new one in similar to the first time.

You’re fine!

PinkFootstool · 15/05/2023 14:48

Taking it out is an absolute doddle, especially compared with it going in....well, mine was!

Onemyownhere · 15/05/2023 14:48

My friend got pregnant on the coil, her coil moved... That's why I'm scared to get in done myself, not planning to have anymore kids anytime soon lol

Battlecat98 · 15/05/2023 14:50

No problems with removal at all compared to going in it was an absolute breeze.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 15/05/2023 14:52

Having it out didn't hurt at all! There's an odd 'pulling' sensation that doesn't hurt for a couple of seconds and its gone!

ThatFraggle · 15/05/2023 14:52

Take some pain killers now, before you get it done.

maranella · 15/05/2023 14:54

I found it rather uncomfortable, but it really helps if you take painkillers and focus on relaxing. Wear something comfortable and breathe deeply while they're doing it. It's only once every five years. Good luck!

WilkinsonM · 15/05/2023 14:55

OMG thank you that's what I needed to hear!
taking paracetamol now in preparation. I just can't visualise how something that's been inside my body for 5 years will happily pop out without resistance!!
going in wasn't a bed of roses but only a bit worse than a smear for me.

I had mine replaced a few months ago and honestly it’s not that bad, I don’t know if it’s the norm but I was told to cough vigorously once they had clamped it, they pulled it in a second and I didn’t even feel a thing and asked if it was out yet as I wasn’t sure 😂 Mine was quite high up and twisted strings too. Good luck, try not to get too tense and take some painkillers 😃

Coming out is 100 times easier than having it put in.

I had mine in for more like 15 years and was sure it wouldn't come out without a fight but it was honestly absolutely fine. No pain at all.

CubeMorphine · 15/05/2023 15:49

I'm thinking of you in your appointment. I have never forgotten having a coil put in and I'm so hoping for an easy swap for you today

WhiskersPete · 15/05/2023 16:15

I pulled my own out. Didn't hurt at all. Going in was awful.

WilkinsonM · 15/05/2023 16:44

They didn't do it :(
I went to the GP ages ago for my smear and asked about peri symptoms. She said it sounds more like my period coming back and PMT and said I could have my coil replaced slightly early but I'd have to make an appointment at the STI clinic as they don't do it.
today the doctor asked when I last had sex and whether I used a condom. I said my DP has had a vasectomy and she said welp we can't do it then as we are only funded to do coils for contraception 😡 I had no idea. Apparently the GP should have referred me to gynaecology at the hospital :( I was all prepared!!!
