How can I blow them away? Please help!

About to start a new job in marketing running social media for a small charity after trying for ages to get one. I really need this job and they hired me on a 'we will give you a chance but don't get your hopes up' vibe. So I know if I don't deliver they will let me go.

Although I have a marketing degree from back in the day and had an internship running social media five years ago, I realise I am probably not the strongest candidate experience wise and someone on the team was doing me a favour.

I start tomorrow and I want to blow them away with my preparations. I will be running Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and maybe more social media sites. I have all day to prep.

What do I bring to them tomorrow?

If it doesn't work out op come back to me, looking for someone in similar role for my charity and your commitment, attitude and enthusiasm would be enough for me - good luck though

thank you @lavagal I will message you if it doesn't work out. Do you have any recommendations for me?

I do have a friend who specializes in social media freelance for charities I can put you in touch with her if my role goes ahead.

Thankyou, marketing is not my forte but the recruitment does fall under my remit so I haven't any specific advice I'm afraid. Other than be prepared to get stuck in and give it your all. Perhaps look at other charities SM presence and get some ideas on what works well and is engaging

Don’t think of single posts, think of a campaign.

links in posts to content elsewhere are good - so if the charity has a detailed report online, pick out a series of one sentence statements to drive engagements and use them plus the link, eg - 65 per cent of carers say they are at breaking point; read more here.

Or, one in five young carers report bullying at school because of their home life, new evidence reveals.

think hashtags - less is often more.

and have a clear understanding of what you want the social media marketing to achieve - are you trying to raise awareness, drive followers, increase engagement etc, and work out a plan for each.

facebook - no word count limit, possible to be less formal and be funny or use hashtags if appropriate

Twitter - limited space, make every word count

linkedin - more formal, more businesslike, tag partners or individuals you think should read your message.

don’t be afraid to ask for engagement - eg, we are a tiny charity, every share, like and follow helps us enormously. Please help.

Following with interest as I am in exactly the same position myself. We're not interviewing for the same job though OP as mine is with an agency with a very varied client list mostly in hospitality.

Well the OP can string a sentence together...

@cutiekate

it's not a nice way to feel starting the job!

try to reframe it in your head & go in confident, not on the back foot!

they've chosen you because they see something in you that they like!!

just go in, be yourself & do your best. You are more than good enough!

wear your favourite pants 😊

Errr ladies, just to be clear.... The OP has written about herself or the company in such a negative way that we either need to help her to understand it's a shit company or her self esteem needs to rise.
