What small to medium size SUV have you got and would you recommend?

I've had my fiat 500 X since 2015 and I'm looking to upgrade. Whilst my car has been great to me, I want something else...

I want something fuel efficient, no gas guzzlers.

Good space. It's just me and my daughter but my fiat 500x space is some what limiting if I have passengers and boot is very small.

Something safe (goes without saying). I live quite remotely and this year have battled floods, epic amounts of snow and ice in my poor little Fiat!

I'm looking for something with a good in car sat nav or something I can plug my phone in and the sat nav screen will come up on the screen (Sorry to be specific but I drive a lot).

Done a lot of research and come back with Ford Puma, VW T-Roc, Kia Sportage.

Any help would be fantastic/advice recommendations would be great.

Have a look at the Hyundai Tuscon - has Apple play for your satnav needs (most of them to these days tbh) and is a good size, good reviews, good value. I really like mine.

I have an Audi q5. It has been an absolute black hole for expense.

When I was younger I had Toyotas that were super reliable, and fuel efficient. That’s what I’m going back to.

Next door neighbours have a T-Roc and love it.

I have a Toyota RAV4. I know that’s not small/medium, but wanted to say it does everything you list and I love it. Super cheap to run and service (compared to my old car). Maybe have a look at what is on the Toyota range in the size you want?

Yorkshiredolls · 15/05/2023 06:56

Ford kuga plug in hybrid- absolutely love it . It is only 1 year old (lease) hardly ever put petrol in it as the electric motor last me about 30 miles which most of my journeys are well under. Love that I can use apple car play on it too

FannythePinkFlamingo · 15/05/2023 07:08

Suzuki Vitara. I loved our's and wish I hadn't sold it now.

sausage767 · 15/05/2023 07:10

I have a Volvo XC40, love it.

Eggbuttie · 15/05/2023 07:12

I have a Kuga but a diesel st line one. Absolutely love it and get 60+ mpg. Has sat nav, reverse camera, apple play. So comfy too. We're a family of 4 plus 2 dogs and fits everything easily, I can also get 2 car seats and an adult in the back.

What fuel does it use? Thinking of getting one.

I wouldn't have called a Kia Sportage small-medium sized. I test drove one recently, really liked it, and was very tempted.

I didn't buy it for two reasons: 1) it was bigger than I needed and 2) I wanted to keep the price below £40,000 because of the implications for car tax and the model I wanted (plug-in hybrid) was just over.

If I hadn't wanted the plug-in hybrid model I'd probably have gone with the Sportage. As it was, I went for a Kia Niro instead. It hasn't arrived yet, so I can't report on it in practice, but like the Sportage it comes with a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty which I found reassuring.

There is a reason there are so many VW Tiguan on the road. At the bigger end of what you may need but popular for a reason.

onthefence23 · 15/05/2023 07:39

We have a Nissan qashqai that's been excellent and very reliable

AlexandraJJ · 15/05/2023 07:42

Before my current car I had a Q3 would highly recommend no negatives at all.

Nothingtoseehereagain · 15/05/2023 07:49

Mini Countryman? 4WD, surprisingly big back seat and boot (it's basically the BMW X1 dressed up to look like a mini, but with less toys) and apple car play (but not android auto).

Muddygreenfingers · 15/05/2023 07:52

You can't go wrong with Volvo, IMO. Nothing comes close.

Misslizzie96 · 15/05/2023 07:53

We’ve had two RAV-4s and liked them both were very reliable great cars, although were diesels which you’re not able to get anymore. We decided to try a XR40 recently as there weren’t any slightly used RAV4s around at the time we were buying, had it a few weeks and really like it, it’s a petrol mild hybrid.

SusannahD · 15/05/2023 08:01

Suzuki vitara, love ours, very reliable car. Decent mpg, good value for money. Lots of room. Has built in sat nav or can use Apple car play.

Timeforchangeithink · 15/05/2023 08:03

Suzuki grand Vitara love it!

lndnbrdge91 · 15/05/2023 08:06

Would you consider a Skoda. They have newer models which are small or medium SUVs. Build quality and ride is very good, as well as parts are all VW but you aren't paying the extra for the badge.

This. Stylish, modern cars that run well with a great safety record. We’re about to upgrade our XC40 to a XC60, only because our family is growing and we need more space, but the XC40 has been great. Bought it brand new in 2020 and there have been no issues at all.

Bluevelvetsofa · 15/05/2023 08:26

Skoda Karoq is a T Roc in all but name. Except it’s less expensive than a VW. I had a 2018 Edition and loved it. I like a higher car- easier for my back and the seats are very adjustable and comfortable. The Kodiaq is a bigger version and the Kamiq is smaller, but I prefer the Karoq.

We've had a 2019 V90 for a while and it's honestly an absolute dream. It's an estate so it has so much room in it. It's actually got more room than the XC60.
Problem is it's a sporty estate so it's low down. People tend to want to be high up nowadays!
We test drove an XC60 and it was a lovely drive. It felt so much nicer compared to the Tiguan we tried the week before.

Lcb123 · 15/05/2023 08:28

We have a Kia Niro it’s very fuel efficient and easy to drive. Nice size to, wouldn’t want anything bigger

petrol. Mine is self charging hybrid, but there is plug in hybrid also available

TheFairyCaravan · 15/05/2023 08:31

I’ve got a VW Tiguan which I love, however if I was going smaller I’d go for the T-Roc or maybe even the T-Cross.
