Passport renewal- how long?

My passport expired last month. I’m about to renew online. The website says it’s taking 10 weeks for new ones but it always says that. If you renewed recently, how long did it take?
If you start an online application, do you have to do it all in one go, or can you save it partly completed and come back later?

I renewed mine using the local
post office ( there is a small charge) had my passport back in less than 3 weeks
I also had a text to keep me updated about the process

Did mine online, took 2 weeks and constant text messages updating me. I would never do it with a paper form again - what a palaver

LakeFlyPie · 14/05/2023 21:03

Renewed DS(14) online. Application done on 15th April, took 3 weeks

Redshoeblueshoe · 14/05/2023 21:04

My adult DD's took a week

Batalax · 14/05/2023 21:05

I was worried because of the strike but it took about 2 weeks.

petalpower · 14/05/2023 21:13

Mine was only about a week - online application during the strike. Very speedy.

Snowfairyxx · 14/05/2023 21:25

I did my online application on Wednesday afternoon and then went to the post office to post my old passport just after. I got an update to say my application was approved late Thursday evening and they had received my old passport and then my new passport was printed in the early hours of Friday.
I don't know when it will be delivered yet but said within 2 to 3 days once passed to delivery team or something. Which seems really quick.
My bil did his a couple of weeks ago and he got a message this weekend to say his was printed. So seems mine was done before his somehow!

We've just renewed DS's child passport. They received his old one on the 22nd April and we received the new one last Wednesday, so about 3 weeks? Not too bad

rooinspace · 14/05/2023 21:35

I did fast track renewal last week. Appointment on Tuesday, passport delivered to my home on Thursday. Worth every penny!

SisyphusDad · 14/05/2023 21:44

Oh fuck fuck fuckity fuck!

I'm just starting to book a holiday for early July and had assumed that all our passports were OK. DS2's expired in January!

Sounds like I do have time to sort it, but how the hell did I miss this!

But thanks for the prompt!

Redlarge · 14/05/2023 21:53

Ive just renewed. Did it online. Took 2 weeks

Clickncollect · 14/05/2023 21:56

Mine took 5 days in April with constant texts. I was so shocked at how quickly it all happened!

It's so easy now, all online, you can even take your own photo on your phone!

meganorks · 14/05/2023 22:24

My daughters renewal took about 4 weeks - 2 weeks for them to acknowledge reciept of the old passport and then about 2 weeks to process and get delivered to me.

My friend has just tried to update hers using fastrack but there were no appointments. I was using a twitter alert for when new appointments went live. I went on straight away and appointments were only available for the belfast office. Those were 1-3 weeks away.

TableTime99 · 14/05/2023 23:43

I'm on week 8 of waiting for mine!

nancy75 · 14/05/2023 23:45

Did mine & DH in March, mine took 8 days, DH came last week. Must be his dodgy picture!

Yeah I’ve bolloxed up a bit too because I didn’t realise mine had expired. But at least I haven’t booked anything yet!

New passport arriving today! 😅So relieved!

On-line application, two weeks turnaround (plus a day for the Bank holiday).

WilkinsonM · 30/05/2023 07:15

Applied for DS' on 18/5, and just got a text saying it's arriving in the post today! Same turnaround for my step kids who all got theirs a couple of weeks ago.

Ellemeg82 · 30/05/2023 07:41

Did mine in April applied online, received new passport 15 days later

Allthescreens · 30/05/2023 08:57

Mine took just over two weeks, a month ago, and that was even taking the strike into account & the fact that they didn't accept my first photo (shadows).

MissRainbowBrite · 30/05/2023 09:06

I renewed DS's from a child to adult passport, did it all online and took 3 weeks but that was with 2 bank holidays included.

Similar here - did my application online on 12 May and had to get a new photo. New passport is being delivered today!

FictionalCharacter · 30/05/2023 10:40

Mine took less than 2 weeks in the end. Phew.
