Loose blankets in a cot are OK right?

For an 18 month old? Sounds ridiculous I'm sure but I've only ever used sleeping bags with all my kids!

LG has wriggled out of hers so I've just added a few blankets on her. Am I meant to tuck them in? I think I'd feel even more nervous then about her getting tangled up in them so just kep them loose.

Is that OK?

Yes, absolutely fine.

Personally my 17 month old has never used a sleeping bag, he's always sort of slept on his side and hated it when I tried him in one, think it was too restrictive.

He's had a pillow and toddler duvet for at least a couple of months now. Sometimes sleeps under the duvet, but mostly I find him snuggled up on top of it with his lighter fleece blanket.

When DS was younger I always made sure his feet were at the bottom of his cot to minimise his opportunity to wriggle down under it.

Pre duvet I used only a blanket, fleece in winter and lighter in summer. Others might think differently but for us blankets were the right way to go and I didn't have any concerns.

Once they can roll they'll roll away if they can't breathe. It's fine.

My sons had a blanket since he was a day old. It's fine.

My 20 month has just moved to a pillow and duvet now, in a big bed with bumper as opposed to cot though. He did have a blanket in the cot for a couple of months but I felt safer moving him to a big bed so he couldn’t climb out using the blankets to stand on etc.

By that age they can move properly, a blanket or duvet is fine. In my experience they’re more likely to get cold than with a bag (from wriggling away from them) but I can’t see how it’s a safety issue - mine were in beds with duvets by that age.

Absolutely fine at that age
