Do you like having your photo taken?

I despise it but I really regret it as I look back at some amazing places I’ve been .. and it’s just scenery.

I had a group one the other week and asked my friend if I looked awful. She said no but it’s obvious you don’t like your photo taken. I need to change and get more comfortable I guess.

My husband has learnt not to show me pictures he’s taken of me as I just burst in to tears. It’s sad and I wish I wasn’t like it but I think I look absolutely disgusting. I won’t even look in a full mirror.

Superdupes · 13/05/2023 20:25

I hate having my photo taken too!

shivawn · 13/05/2023 20:26

Yes, I think I look better in photos than in real life. I think I'm just good at posing.

InTheStars · 13/05/2023 20:27

I absolutely totally hate having my picture taken.

I’m the same with the mirror thing, I’ll look in the morning to do my hair/makeup. But will avoid them for the rest of the day. It’s really sad.

I think I’m the opposite (not that I look great in real life). But I’ll look in the mirror before I go out for drinks for example and think I look “ok” and then it’s an absolute goblin looking back on me in photos.

Perhaps I need practice with angles and how I’m smiling.

Hate it - my husband promises me I don’t look as awful as I look like in photos. It’s like something happens to my face the moment the picture taken. My beautiful daughter is exactly the same - she now hates her photo taken!!

PinkOrangeTulip · 13/05/2023 20:40

Not particularly. I’m usually the picture taker - I love taking pics of my family, as pictures are important to me. Dh makes sure he takes lots of pictures with me in them though. I’m not overly fussed if I look abit chubby in them or whether my eyes are half open, one day, my kids are going to look back at these and hopefully they will smile or laugh!

Fizbosshoes · 13/05/2023 21:01

I would never leave the house if I thought I looked as horrific as I do in most photos! I can feel quite happy with how I look and then someone takes a pic and it's awful. Im really short so I'm always the shortest in every group photo I'm in which doesn't help.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/05/2023 21:04

The good Lord on ghost train absolutely not. I look like a full on sea monster.

Johnisafckface · 13/05/2023 21:06

I can’t stand it. I’m not photogenic at all so even when I try to look my best I look like an ogre

bloodywhitecat · 13/05/2023 21:09

No, I hate it but now I bitterly regret not having more photos taken with DH as he died 15 months ago and I have barely any photos of us together. I would sell a kidney to be able to go back in time and rectify that.

SirenSays · 13/05/2023 21:09

Not at all. I was a model in my teens and its made me a bit of an insecure perfectionist. It's great if I can spend an age getting everything perfect, no hair out of place. But candid group shots? No, I want to die 😅

HuntingoftheSnark · 13/05/2023 21:11

I was at a party a couple of years ago where people were taking photographs. One woman - someone I have known casually for a few years - absolutely refused to be in any photographs at all. It turned out that there are no photographs of her to her knowledge, including her own wedding. I found this incredibly sad. She is perfectly normal looking. She is not on any social media at all. I suppose that she must have a passport, but we were so surprised that obviously we didn't labour the point.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/05/2023 21:11

I always look red, shiny and old . And about a stone heavier than I actually am. I don’t think I’ve ever had a flattering picture taken by someone else. I take an occasional selfie and I try to Make the dc ‘pile in’ to a selfie so I can get just a glimpse of me and all of them. I don’t think I’m a hideous person, but I despise photos of me and other people taking them and displaying them without my approval Makes me genuinely unhappy.

Antisocialfluffmonster · 13/05/2023 21:12

I don’t do photos. Not for work, not for anything. If it’s a requirement I’ll find a reason to not be there.

my mother would insist in posting the most awful photos of me, in the end I’d go through Facebook and you can remove the tag and from your page. It’s easier than talking to her about it as she just won’t listen.

MissMogwai · 13/05/2023 21:12

I absolutely hate it, to the point it's a phobia.
That makes me sound a vain, drama Queen which I definitely am not, I just hate every aspect of it - from the posing to the actual picture.

I actually had some hypnotherapy sessions before my wedding which to be fair did work for a short time, but since then, absolutely not. Tried the hypnotherapy again but it didn't work the second time.

It doesn't help these days that everyone takes pictures of every.little.thing.

VintageThoughts · 13/05/2023 21:18

Hate having mine taken.

What's worse is that I used to look ok then as I've got older my eyes look weird and my smile has changed. I look horrendous.

Some of my friends know exactly how to pose in photos and look really lovely. I just look like a badly made waxwork model 😭

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/05/2023 21:20

I had to take a selfie for an ID badge. I deleted about 20 before there was one that I felt able to see on a badge. Awful, but the best of a bad bunch.

EversoDisorganised · 13/05/2023 21:23

I don't mind at all, just stand straight and smile. With regard to holiday photos though, I take the odd one with my family in but mostly take landscapes and scenes on their own. Don't like it when I'm looking at other people's holiday photos and they are in all of them, I want to see the places.

user7637292 · 13/05/2023 21:32

I love it!

I like the way I look and I like looking back at old photos/memories.

Well plenty of people may think they're bees knees when they look in the mirror but the camera can often tell a different story. Its not always about liking or even disliking the way you look. You get some people who are genetically challenged shall we say in the flesh yet on camera they're absolutely stunning. It can also work the work the other way (stunning in the flesh yet repulsive on camera) . There's no way on Gods green earth I'd get a date on tinder. I'd have more chance of winning the lottery when I hadn't bought a ticket. Well actually no there would be two chances, ones called fat and ones called no chance.😂

Bubblyb00b · 13/05/2023 21:54

I hate my pictures. There would be one out of 100 that would look ok! The rest make me look old, grumpy and fat. I was even told by random people (mainly OLD) that I look better in real life. Weird! Try to avoid having my photos taken.
