Mens suits for funeral - what colour ?

I am attending a funeral shortly with DH and looking through his wardrobe I dont think he has a suit that is smart enough, doesnt look dated or is an appropriate colour. Working for a tech company and due to the pandemic he has not really worn a suit beyond weddings for 10+ years so is out of touch.

We had a slight row about it and he has charged me with finding him a suitable one. I am happy to do

So could anyone give me any pointers - best place to buy? M&S seems to be solid and dependable or Next? Or John lewis? Or another?

And colour-wise is charcoal grey suitable or navy? I always feel that black suits can look a bit scruffy and maybe arent as easy to use for other purposes

Anyone got any recommendations? (Beyond telling him to sort it out himself!)

I really wouldn't bother buying a new suit unless he's going to be wearing it more than once! When you say 'dated', what style are we talking here? Will it really matter?

As long as it's a sober/sombre colour, it doesn't matter (unless the family have decreed that attendees must wear black).

We found matalan a good place for inexpensive suits suitable for funerals, probably never to be worn again

Obviously you also need to make sure that it's clean ...

Get a black suit from matalan for funerals and next time he wants a wedding suit go a bit more up market.

Might get a good suit in a charity shop, depends on funeral I guess, how formal, but a nice black shirt and trousers are worn. People aren't so traditional nowadays.
