How can I translate this language?

Strange situation...

For several months I have been receiving calls to my mobile at least once a day. I'm usually at work so the caller leaves a voicemail message. It's a lady speaking a foreign language. I don't know what language and I can't understand it.

After a few days of this I answered her call. I thought she would realise that she's obviously got the wrong number as it's not me she's wanting to get in touch with. She spoke at me and I told her she had the wrong number. But the calls have continued. I have blocked her number but she can still leave voice mails. I'm getting two or three a day. I know I can just ignore it but if I knew what she was saying and in what language I might be able to tell her to stop. Also, she sounds very earnest, almost upset at times, so she seems to really want to convey something to whoever she's trying to call and she's not doing that while I'm getting the messages!

I've downloaded a translation app and played the messages but it doesn't work because I don't know what language she's speaking. It sounds like Arabic to me but the translation app doesn't recognise it.

How can I find out what these messages say and get this lady to stop calling me?

No idea, sorry, but following out of curiosity!

Can you use Google translate on desktop, hit the microphone button and play the voicemails?

It might detect the right language, then you can translate your 'You've got the wrong number' message back, hit play and leave her a voicemail with the generated voice Grin

Hmmm. Maybe report it to your service provider? They might be able to block her from leaving voicemails too. It’s a pretty weird situation. Most people would realize it was the wrong number and stop.

I've tried playing it to Google translate and it doesn't recognise the language. The messages are a bit fuzzy so perhaps it can't hear well enough?

I follow a language account on Facebook which posts a word a day sound file - if you can work out how to do that, you could post a snippet and ask people to identify the language.

Oh that's a good idea. I'll see if I can save it a sound file.
