Booking tickets for the Proms - where's the seating plan gone?!

Last year I booked several tickets for the Proms. And always I had a choice - ie to click on a seat map of the RAH and select available seats from that or have the system auto allocate me seats by reference to a seating category (eg Side Stalls).

But this year, I don't see the map option.

Has it been removed or is it still there but I'm being a bit obtuse? And if it's still there, if anyone could signpost me, that would be great!

Anyone?

i wonder why they've disabled the seat plan function (if in fact they have) - maybe it encourages people NOT to book if they see lots of unsold seats and just chance the same day Promming tickets or leave book No until later

No idea OP but bumping for you in case someone more knowledgeable comes along...

You've reminded me that we want to book some tickets for the proms this year too! I thought tickets sales opened on Monday though.

I don't think that you can book specific seats online - DH was in the box office queue this morning and one of the people there said he had to turn up as he needed an aisle seat and the only way to get one was to go to the box office. However if you go in to the concert you want and select the area you want to sit in and the number of seats you want then the booking programme allocates you seats together. Some concerts are pretty well all sold out so for those you might get allocated random seats as that's all that's left.

Thanks, @londonmummy1966 . I managed to book the tickets but a frustrating experience in the absence of being able to see tbe seats on a seating plan which you could do last year.

@Norugratsatall - booking opened at 10am on Saturday . I started off at position 10,823 in the queue with waiting time of an hour

Update: I contacted the Royal Albert Hall this morning to ask about this. Their super prompt and helpful response was as follows:

"When the Proms first go on sale, as there are 70 concerts on sale at the same time, it is not possible to select you own seats online (and never has been), the process would take so much longer. There are thousands of people booking at the same time. If you wish to have specific seating, phoning is always an option. The Select Your Own Seat function is usually enabled about a week after the general sale"

Mystery solved!

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle - hope you managed to get everything you wanted - despite being number 12 in the box office queue (arriving at the Hall at 4 am....) DH wasn't able to get two stalls seats together for the first night. Never had that happen before.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 15/05/2023 15:48

I'm sorry to hear that, @londonmummy1966 - will you still be in stalls but apart or together in, say, Rausing Circle Restricted View

4am - I salute your DH's grit and enthusiasm

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle - he's very keen to get exactly what he wants (he is the main prom goer in this household). He's been doing it for years so I think they have a bit of an annual reunion in the queue .....He got decent tickets in the circle for the first night it is just that when there's a pianist he and DD (who is a pianist) like to be close to the stage to watch the hands....

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 15/05/2023 18:23

same here - I wanted to get side stalls on a particular side for maximum close view of pianists' hands!

My DS19 is in London and was hoping to go promming this evening but has missed out on getting a ticket. With the train strikes, I am guessing there will be some tickets for resale. Does anyone know how to get a ticket?

londonmummy1966 · 27/08/2023 13:05

@Engineeringlife I would suggest he goes in person to the box office at the Hall. I think the standing proms tickets are sold out for tonight but there might be box office returns for seated tickets. As the phone lines don't work at the weekend he can't call but the box office is open.

Engineeringlife · 27/08/2023 13:39

@londonmummy1966 He’s been to the RAH but they only had one ticket with a very restricted view for £70. DS is a student.

Then I'm afraid his only chance will be to turn up and join a proms queue (gallery a better bet) and hop that some of the season ticket holders who have booked in don't show (unlikely given its Rattle/Mahler).
