Should I delete this teams message

My boss sent a heart emoji on a work message. I've sent one back on a message. Sort of regretting and wondering whether I can delete it. It's not marked as seen. What are the chances my boss has read it? Would they be able to go on a different device and read it and it not update in my desktop?

Edit and put a different emoji

WhatWeDoInTheShadow · 12/05/2023 19:45

Why did your boss send the heart emoji?

AngryBirdsNoMore · 12/05/2023 19:47

As in, as a reaction to a message? That’s quite usual in my work place, meaning you really like the message. Eg if I sent a ‘well done’ to one of my team, they and others might heart it to show approval and strong like, stronger than just the thumbs up

CoffeeCupandBiscuits · 12/05/2023 19:47

Is there a chance they've seen it? Or would it have to show up as 'read'? I don't want to look like I've overthought it by editing it a few hours later . Even though I'm clearly thinking about it all night lol

Did you heart the message, or send a heart emoji as a message?

if you hearted the message you can just change your reaction. If you sent it as a message you can delete the message (look to see if it has been viewed first - the tick shows it was sent, the eye shows it was seen).

You are massively overthinking this though!

CoffeeCupandBiscuits · 12/05/2023 19:50

Yes it was a reaction so kind of like a strong well done except I'm not sure it was merited and I've never seen that person do it before. They've been a bit flirty so I thought it was maybe more than that. But now I'm thinking what if it was just a well done !! Aargh

Ooooo the plot thickens! So possible flirting? Between both of you or just from them?

Tootootoot · 12/05/2023 19:53

Your boss could easily have seen it as there's a setting people can use so it doesn't update to show messages have been seen. But I wouldn't worry about it, heart emojis don't mean much.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 12/05/2023 19:53

I think you’re probably overthinking it! I’d think of it as a strong well done!

CoffeeCupandBiscuits · 12/05/2023 19:58

Yes both flirting, but more so from them I'd say. But pretty subtle given where we work. So embarrassed if I've misread the situation. I'll have to just act like no message was sent, no big deal kind of thing.

I send hearts as thanks all the time, thumbs up is a bit dismissive. Don't overthink it.

ScarletWitchM · 12/05/2023 20:10

We use teams at work and you do get a notification that someone reacted so if they don’t have it on their phone then just change it in the desktop to the thumbs up or smile emoji

90stalgia · 12/05/2023 20:12

My Teams chats have more hearts floating about than Clinton's on Valentines Day. Don't worry about it!

SimonsCow · 12/05/2023 20:22

Agree with others OP. Not a big deal unless you make it into one by deleting it

AliceOlive · 12/05/2023 20:24

I wouldn't worry about it. If he starts inquiring about why your skirt is off sick, that's another thing.

LysHastighed · 12/05/2023 20:29

Even if it was a well done, your reaction could mean ‘love it’ rather than ‘love you’.
Are you saying they and them because it’s your female boss? Is that part of what’s making the situation difficult for you?

pecantoucan · 12/05/2023 20:32

If you react with a heart that's fine, sending a heart is weird. Why are you flirting with your boss?!

CoffeeCupandBiscuits · 12/05/2023 20:53

I just deleted it, hopefully he hasn't seen it and if he did then he can draw whatever conclusion he likes. I can't be thinking about it all the time! I was flirting because I like him!! But it's probably not a good idea given he's the boss, so I've deleted it. I have to say, he started it!

Mine too, I’m 70% hearts, 20% thumbs and 10% laughs.

If he queries it, just say you posted the message to the wrong chat - happens all the time and what I usually assume when I see a deleted message. I once posted a massive lights twinkling dancing bunnies 'good luck' gif to the wrong chat - where it landed plonk in the middle of a serious technical discussion 😊

determinedtomakethiswork · 12/05/2023 21:00

Are you both single?

SweetSakura · 12/05/2023 21:00

Heart is just a more enthusiastic thumbs up in this context? At least that's how I use it?.
