Birkenstock sandals - size up or down?

I have found some Birkenstock sandals online that I like but I am wondering about the sizing. Sometimes I am size 41 and sometimes 40 depending on how roomy they are. If you have Birkenstocks, do you find that they come up on the large or small size? Thanks!

Size up, they are quite narrow, I buy the mens for this reason.

I generally size down and still find them roomy. It's been about five years since I purchased them though.

I find them true to size but get ‘narrow’ unless you have VERY wide feet.

Ok, thanks! I have ordered them up and will see. There is free returns so if I am not happy, then I can return and order up a different size.

I'm a 5.5 and always get a 5 and they're fine but I do have narrow feet.

Always a size down.

Open the straps fully when you try them and see if your foot fits the footbed comfortably. Then tighten the straps. That's how it was explained to me to check they fit.
