Ok, hit me up with your stories of successful midlife career changes. I'm 45, I lost my job yesterday and I'm so weary of the corporate treadmill and all that bollocks. I think I need a change of direction.
My background is in journalism/communications, I have broad experience of both kinds of roles and have done some occasional freelance work. I also have a keen interest in gardening and nature - I'm about to do my last RHS Level 2 exams to get that qualification but have never actually worked in horticulture (except in my own garden).
What would you do with my skills and experience? I'm open to anything at this point - retraining, moving industries, going freelance/consulting or something I haven't even thought of yet!
Have you successfully changed career into something related or completely different? I know this sort of thing isn't always easy or quick, but I need reassurance that this might be possible without tanking our household financially or falling prey to my burgeoning midlife crisis and moving into something unrealistic or unsustainable.
Any advice, ideas, experiences welcomed!
