Freezer door won't shut

Checked the gaskets- top won't shut but bottom will.
What can I do over night while I deal with it properly?
Thanks so much- pancking as we have a lot of frozen in there.

Is anything preventing one of the drawers closing properly - if any of the drawers stick out the door won't close. Check for ice buildup at the back (even if it's meant to be a frost free freezer) and see if you can chip any ice off with a spatula. That might make the difference.

I don't think it's anything inside the fridge

Is it not the ice at the top preventing the door from closing? This happens when the door hadn't been closed properly and it creates that layer of ice.

You can defrost it quickly by using a hairdryer.

If it really won’t close, you need either something really heavy to hold it shut, or to tie it shut to something behind it. Our fridge door broke and I screwed a cup hook into the side (wooden cladding rather than the actual fridge), the tied another hook to the fridge handle with twine. Had to get it really tight as the fridge door was heavy and fell open if not very tightly tied.

You can’t screw into the actual freezer but is there anything behind it you can attach something to?

cocksstrideintheevening · 10/05/2023 18:50

Can you hack off the ice at the top?

Floralnomad · 10/05/2023 18:53

Take all the drawers out and check for obstructions and see if it closes without the drawers , at least it barrows down the problem .

gamerchick · 10/05/2023 18:53

It'll be ice. Take the drawers out and get it off

tattychicken · 10/05/2023 18:53

Yep looks to be ice building around that top drawer. Hack it off or defrost the whole freezer.

TheFlis12345 · 10/05/2023 18:55

Surely it’s just all that ice at the top preventing it from closing? Chip it off with a wooden or plastic spatula.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/05/2023 18:55

The ice at the top and bottom corner may just be enough to stop it closing
Hairdryer or a very hot cloth would help if you can't chip it off

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 10/05/2023 18:58

I can definitely see the ice on top. unless the door is broken, it should solve the problem by defrosting it.

We had same problem, freezer door not shutting properly. It wasn't an ice. We remedied by using object to keep it shut, until we bought a new fridge.

PinkFootstool · 10/05/2023 19:03

Looks like the ice, but pull the drawers out and see if the ice is pushing them proud of the doorway as well. Ours does this constantly - drives me bonkers.

TwoManyKids · 10/05/2023 20:33

Thanks everyone- now going to have a go at hacking the ice off!

It's not the drain thingy door open is it? This caught me out as it's small and low down on our freezer

TwoManyKids · 10/05/2023 21:38

Freezer is now closing! Thanks everyone!

You need to defrost it properly or it'll keep happening. (Bitter experience)
