F**cked a job interview today

I’m so gutted. Exhausted from applying for jobs.
I won’t go into why/how I fucked the interview but yeah they said they’d phone the successful candidate at the end of today and my phone hasn’t rung.

leaving my current job due to poor management (many other staff have left in a short space of time).

Not really sure why I’m writing this thread. I’m just sad I guess and needed to vent. The pressure is on to find a new job and it’s just getting a bit much at the moment.

Ah I bet you didn't properly fuck it up! Even if you didn't get the job. And even if you did, we've all been there. You'll get another one and hopefully it will be the one.

It is awful interviewing when you're desperate to leave your current job though. I know that feeling and it is exhausting. So you definitely have my sympathies

Pinkplasticbathcup · 10/05/2023 16:56

I’ve just fucked one up too. So solidarity!! But not as gutted as you as not unhappy in my current job.
Sorry love. Hope something comes along soon xx

buddhasbelly · 10/05/2023 16:57

Thank you. Seriously thank you so much.
I’m taking the learning from the experience but just so exhausted from it all.

I didn’t envisage myself having to apply for jobs just now but there’s no tenable way to stay in my current job. I’d tried to effect change as have others but it’s met with total resistance.

i know there’s worse things happening, I’m just really tired from it all.

I fucked up one yesterday. I am literally cringing at some of the answers I gave. I just hope maybe that I got by on the practical test/ knowledge test and because a friend put in a good word for me. Not holding out too much hope though.

buddhasbelly · 10/05/2023 17:01

Fingers cross for those of you that have also had interviews over the last few days. It’s such a tiring process.

I won’t wallow in it for too long but right now I’m just too tired to do anything but sit down

I've just messed up an application assessment. I'm pretty fed up with job hunting, to be honest, and I'm in the foothills! Big hugs, dust yourself down, this one wasn't meant to be. Good luck.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 10/05/2023 17:34

Chalk it up to experience. And speaking of which, go on as many interviews as possible to practice. How stable are your finances can you risk temping for a bit?

Mischance · 10/05/2023 17:37

We are all very self-critical when it comes to interviews, so it may not have been as dire as you thought; but we have all fucked up one time or another so join the clan. Lots of good luck with the next one.

buddhasbelly · 10/05/2023 17:58

Thanks all

Can temp for a wee bit if needed :-)

feel a lot better - basically the issue was my presentation didn’t reflect what would be done on the role but just spoke to someone else in the sector who also read the job spec and said they would’ve done exactly what I had done and the job description definitely didn’t match what they said in interview what the job was about.

ach I’ve had my few hours of moping, onwards and upwards! Thanks again all 🙂

Well I had a similar experience the other day and 6 days later (involved a bank holiday weekend) they rang me and offered me the job. I waffled my way through some answers, said some really silly things. Had that sinking, this didn't go well feeling afterwards and still got the job. You really never know op!

ElsaMars · 10/05/2023 18:35

I had one today too and am cringing at the part where the lovely interviewer was trying to get an answer out of me and I waffled absolute crap! Won't hear until end of next week either. We've all been there and it's gutting, sorry.

Rainydaysgetmedown · 10/05/2023 18:44

I did a shocking one last year. On paper I was the perfect candidate. I prepared so hard and did practice answers for everything they could ask and totally bumbled my way through it trying to think of if I had done an answer for the question. Definitely back to instinctive preparation in the future for me

Amazingly I have actually been offered the job. Has anyone else heard back?

CountingMareep · 18/05/2023 00:10

On the other hand there’s a perverse consolation in reading another thread on here about weird/unhelpful feedback from interviews, and realising that there’s only so much you can do to max your chances. It’s not an exam, it’s a horse race with blinkers on, and you’ve no idea what the odds are on the other runners.

Best of luck to everyone job hunting - because a lot of it is luck at the end of the day.

Barleysugar86 · 18/05/2023 00:23

It sounds like you haven't heard either way yet, I wouldn't take no call yet to mean you're out. I find most jobs are over optimistic about when they will be able to offer.

Also the older I get the more I have noticed in some interviews there is just a 'click' and everything feels easy talking and those are the jobs I've been most happy in. The other interviews I've come out thinking I've messed it up deep down I think it's often been conflicting personality types. I had one interview feel like this and I was offered the job surprisingly and accepted, but it was an awful team to have joined, and in hindsight I wished I'd paid more attention to my own feelings that I wasn't feeling the interview to think maybe we were mutually fucking it up really.
