Optimax vs Optical Express

Hi - does anyone know if Optical Express idesign is really better than Optimax Wavefront Intralase? They are quoting double the price but don’t want to make the decision on cost alone!

Isn't iDesign just a type of wavefront technology? As far as I can tell there's not a huge amount of difference - I don't think I'd pay double for one over the other.
Can I ask what you were quoted by both places though?
I saw optical express were advertising 'from £595 per eye' and while I was expecting it to be a lot more than that (I have quite a high prescription), I'm surprised at how much the quote was.

Yes it is but the way they described it was that theirs was one where they look at over 1,200 point a in your eye to customise your laser treatment versus other wavefronts that look at 300 I think but it’s very hard to validate!

Optical Express are quoting £5,990 down to £5,690 with refer a friend. Optimax are £3,990 (standard £1,995 per eye no matter your prescription) but if you message them on Facebook in response to one of their posts about a discount they are running £1k off if you book in this month taking it to £2,990.

What is your prescription, mine also high at -6 with astigmatism.

Mine is -6.5 and -7.5, but no astigmatism
They quoted me £5490, with 10% off if I booked in then (which puts me off as a tactic anyway). Maybe the astigmatism makes a difference (or maybe they make it up as they go along 😆).
Oooh I didn’t know about the 1k off. Thank you! To be honest for that much difference I’d be happy with only 300 points instead of 1200.

Optimax have put in a chat with the surgeon so should get to ask then and get a feel for it! -6 is basically the max they will treat with astigmatism so I suspect it is close to their max price!

How did you get on with this? I've got consultations lined up with Optimax, Optical Express and Optegra (Relex Smile), but I've just noticed Optimax are doing the £1000 discount again.

The Optimax surgeon was very ‘direct’ and said I was not a good candidate. Optical Express let me get all the way to surgery day and when I met the surgeon he said I had 4 years max and an 80% chance of 20/20 without blurring and a 5% chance permanent irreversible damage so I ran a mile!
