At what age did your dc stop getting into your bed or sleeping with you?

was just reading another thread about what was in your bed on waking this morning and many posters said their dc of various ages some older than my ds. I came to realise it seems like years since my ds age 10 got into my bed during the night or spent the night in my bed he just hasn't seemed to have wanted to do it for years. He must've been around 5 or 6 last time he slept with me and we had cuddles in bed. This made me feel quite sad and realise that my little boy is growing up. he is only 10 though many others seem to have dc of this age who still want to sleep and snuggle with mum occasionally.
Any one else have an independent 10 year old who no longer wants to sleep or cuddle with mum?

Mine only ever did if they were ill, up to about age 5. Which was quite a relief TBH, I could never sleep with them in the bed. They did come in occasionally when they were a bit older if DH was away but definitely all stopped before 10, they were just too big.

MissSmiley · 08/05/2023 21:05

One of my twin boys was 11 when he stopped getting in, my youngest daughter is nearly 13 and still sleeps with me sometimes, they all grow out of it eventually

Oblomov23 · 08/05/2023 21:06

Never. Only ever occasionally jumped into bed for a cuddle in the morning. Tbf neither ds was ever ill, never got colds, nothing.

My DC have never slept with me.

But my 19 year old is still happy to have a cuddle.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 08/05/2023 21:15

Mine never did either.

bussteward · 08/05/2023 21:19

I used to get into bed with my mum in the mornings until she died when I was 35. Parents’ bed is always more comfortable than own bed, it’s just the law.

DragonflyLady · 08/05/2023 21:21

My 11 year old has just recently decided she’d prefer her own bed - but still needs me in the room with her! Which is lovely.

SpaghettiSquash · 08/05/2023 21:22

I've never had a DC sleep in bed with me.

SouthLondonMum22 · 08/05/2023 21:23

Mine is much younger but never.

AlliumFairy · 08/05/2023 21:26

Youngest was 11. Up to then he came in with me quite often, maybe once a week up to 8 then just once in a while when he felt poorly or sad.
I remember at the time thinking this is probably the last time you'll have a child snuggle in your bed. End of an era.

cocksstrideintheevening · 08/05/2023 21:27

Dts are 12 now and still come into me for a cuddle every morning. We have never slept together unless sick and that has only been a couple
Of times each

Xtraincome · 08/05/2023 21:29

DD8 almost every night still
DD5 hardly ever!

ChiChaNaYubi · 08/05/2023 21:30

My older one did until she was 3. The toddler still does.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 08/05/2023 21:30

DS slept in my bed for the last time when he was 12 nearly 13. Dd slept me on holiday in October she is 16.

HippeePrincess · 08/05/2023 21:32

About 3, I think she’d come in in the mornings when she was 4 to watch something and I’d go back
to sleep.

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 08/05/2023 21:32

DD is 11 and when my husband is on nights she likes to come and sleep in bed with me. The only other time I tend to sleep in her bed is if she’s unwell.

Hoppinggreen · 08/05/2023 21:34

I never stopped them but it didn’t happen often.
DS is 14 and will come for a cuddle at night, he stays above the covers and asks if I have PJs on first though

Okunevo · 08/05/2023 21:35

DS was 11 when he stopped sleeping in a shared bed. He was very independent in all other ways from a young age so I don't think it has any connection with independence in general. He just preferred not to sleep alone.

It's odd in our culture that adult couples are expected to bed share, but all other people, including young children, should sleep alone.

illiterato · 08/05/2023 21:36

Never, unless they were ill and even then I tended just to sleep on their floor.

Yeah I know- the tudors got that right. What are we thinking?

FawnFrenchieMum · 08/05/2023 21:38

Mine have never really slept in my bed, just didn’t work for any of us (if they were ill, I’d set up a camp bed at the side of us) but they did get in for cuddles on a morning. Honestly can’t remember when they last did though. DD is 10 and definitely hasn’t for a while so you’re not alone.

NerrSnerr · 08/05/2023 21:38

My 6 year old usually gets in our bed, usually about 4am so he's slept most of the night in his own bed. My 8 year old doesn't ever.

Okunevo · 08/05/2023 21:38

Oh and DS still comes to hug me goodnight in my bed at 16.

stargirl1701 · 08/05/2023 21:39

Still coming in especially if poorly here at 10 and 8.

CatOnTheChair · 08/05/2023 21:39

My oldest slept with me when he had covid - so aged 12. He will also come for a cuddle in the mornings if he wakes me up - so he did his DoE expedition the other weekend, and his instructions were to wake me at 7am - which he did, but came for a cuddle before we both got up.

His younger brother, not since he was about 2.
