So fed up of the Amazon kids fire tablets.
we don’t generally let the kids use tablets at home. We only own them for downloading films and games for when we are going on long car journeys/holidays etc.
the Amazon tablets are infuriating. They are so tempremental on whether they play downloaded videos and films when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi. I’ve totally lost my temper with them after wiping them and setting them all up again, re downloading everything and we’ve just set off for a 4 hour drive and nothing will bloody play!

Anyway, please recommend me a tablet that will download and play films and games and actually work offline.
kids are 5 and 8.
Dont specifically have to be kids tablets as I keep a close eye on what they’re watching.

My 5 and 7.5 year olds were given Lenovo tablets for Easter. They’re so much better than the fires they replaced.

LittleRebelGirl · 08/05/2023 11:15

Which model are they? We have the newest model and they are brilliant, no problems. Had older models that were shit though.

Thelittlekingdom · 08/05/2023 11:17

Best tablet for us has been the iPad though they’re not cheap and definitely get a case so they don’t break. We had a fire for a while but I bloody hated the thing.

Itdjgsurchg · 08/05/2023 11:19

Ive given up with them too. I just let my daughter download games on my old Samsung tablet and just check that they are suitable.

AllOrNothingSituation · 08/05/2023 11:20

They are good for very small children but I would never buy one again. They are so slow and my kids couldn’t play Roblox on them I bought so many and they all lagged too much and kicked them out the game. We have iPads now and I wouldn’t go back to Amazon fire. Cheap for a reason

golddustwomen · 08/05/2023 11:21

I'd say an iPad. We bought one second hand and never had a problem with it.

PinkFootstool · 08/05/2023 12:31

How old are the tablets?

Have you wiped them and started again? Are they full of crap on the memory? Do they need any updates?

PullingAtTeeth · 08/05/2023 14:18

Thank you all.
so looks like either bite the bullet and spend the £££ on iPads or maybe try the Samsung or Lenovo ones.
We have one fire that’s 1 year old and the other is 2 or 3 years old now. I’ve updated them, factory re-settled them, deleted all content and started again. I’ve done every trouble shooting thing I can find multiple times and I am just completely and utterly done with them. They are so unbelievably crap. And the bloody chuffing pin. I’ve put it in 200 times today. Gahhhhh

Can I ask as well. What memory did you go for with the iPads?

Dd1 has Samsung galaxy tablet after multiple fires were shit...dd2s fire now wint charge. I hate them.

Hangingtrousers · 08/05/2023 14:20

The Samsung tablet is good. More pricy though.

AllOrNothingSituation · 08/05/2023 14:20

We got ours refurbished on amazon so price wasn’t too bad but it’s an older model still miles better than Amazon 😂

OnMyWayToSenility · 08/05/2023 14:22

We've had fire tablets for the kids too they are so difficult to navigate I hated them!
I buy the bullet and bought iPads.
The screen time app is great, the downloads are great.
Buy screen covers and really good indestructible covers too!

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 08/05/2023 14:22

Refurbished iPad, they last forever don't fill up and work brilliantly.

SpringBunnies · 08/05/2023 14:33

I got fed up with fire tablets with the kids and got them Apple iPads instead. They do homework on their tablets, like times table rock star, Edshed and the fire tablet had a very old version of timetable rock star that didn’t work properly. It’s so frustrating. It’s so much better on iPads. They now use Disney+ and Netflix to watch shows on tablets instead of Amazon kids.

SpringBunnies · 08/05/2023 14:36

Both DC have 64GB iPad minis.

PullingAtTeeth · 08/05/2023 14:45

Thanks so much.
So you all find 64GB to be enough storage?

Might go for iPads for the 5 and 7 year old and a cheaper Samsung for our nearly 2 year old then to watch some mr tumble etc on when we are travelling….

now to persuade the husband to part with some £££. He doesn’t understand my pure rage when I’m sat in the back with the kids trying to get the useless fires to play anything, anything at all!

whoruntheworldgirls · 08/05/2023 14:48

I'm with you, stupid bloody thing drives me mad 😡 we're still using it for games as like the amazon kid's subscription but now use an older iPhone for videos/movie downloads to be sure they work.
Will get her an iPad when older and more set on what games she likes.

cocksstrideintheevening · 08/05/2023 15:05

They're useless pieces of shite. Get an iPad.

We got ours older (cheaper) ones from CEX which were fine for what they wanted

Longwhiskers · 08/05/2023 15:13

Hmmmm ours work absolutely fine for downloads, same age kids. But I didn’t put Amazon kids on it. We just download on Netflix and Disney etc for car Journeys and always works?

CheeseAndOnionIsMyFav · 08/05/2023 15:26

Our 8yo has a Lenovo android tablet. Bought a cheap rubber case for it and a screen protector and it's still in perfect condition. You can run it in some sort of android kids mode but we've set ours up as a regular tablet and we run Screen Time for additional parental/time controls.

XelaM · 08/05/2023 15:27

iPad no contest

WhatWeDoInTheShadow · 08/05/2023 15:28

I hate my dcs' kindle fires too, so I'm reading this with interest.

IHateLegDay · 08/05/2023 15:37

We have fire tablets and also only let the kids use them for car journeys etc and I HATE them!
Looking forward to the day I can afford iPads
