I'm looking for examples of picture books with invented words in them.

So far I have: -

The Gruffulo by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler
The Giant Jumperee by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury
The Nickle Nackle Tree by Lynley Dodd
The Glump and the Pebble by Wendy Meddour and illustrated by Rebecca Ashdown
Abracadabra by Helen Docherty and illustrated by Thomas Docherty
The Snatchabook by Helen Docherty and illustrated by Thomas Docherty

Can you think of any more examples, please?

TIA.

Everything written by Edward Lear and a fair bit by Lewis Caroll.

That's meant to be Abracazebra instead of Abracadabra. My tablet changed it!

And it's the Glump and the Peeble. Annoying autocorrect again!

Spike Milligan poetry, though I'm not sure they really count as picture books.

I'm sure some Sandra Boynton has made up animals in. Maybe Snoozers?

Although it isn't a picture book 🤣. But is designed for the age who have picture books read to them 😆.

I was trying to remember this one - Penguin Small by Mick Inkpen. They find a "Neverwasanocerous"

LilyDivine · 08/05/2023 18:36

Thanks Bertie. I like a lot of Mick Inkpen but have never actually read Penguin Small.
