New job has asked if I want to meet the team before I start

I start a new job in roughly 6 weeks, and a couple of days after accepting the offer I received an email from the head of department (who interviewed me) asking if I wanted to meet the team and my future line manager.

I said yes, and they have asked if I would prefer in-person or over Zoom? I just wondered if anyone has done this when starting a new job, and how it went and if it was virtual or in-person?

I would prefer virtual, just because the office is a 1.5h commute so it would be a mission to get to just for a short meeting, but I'm not sure if that would look bad? I'm also not sure when to suggest it - soon or nearer to my start date?

For senior positions where I work it's almost expected that well meet the new hires face to face to discuss work streams etc before they start and to help them settle in. I think you'd get more out of a f2f than zoom 🤔

Face to face gives a better impression imo, no less than 2 weeks before your start date.

I'd go for face-to-face to make the better impression.
