Just reread this. Such a lovely story that I loved as a child and still love now.
At the end Petrova asks 'I wonder, if other girls had to be one of us, which of us they'd choose to be?'
As a child I would have chosen to be Posy, as I dreamed of dancing. Now I would definitely choose Pauline.
Who would you choose to be and is that any different to who you would have chosen as a child?

The NS book I always thought was so cruel was Tennis Shoes. The girl makes a mistake and sells 4 umbrellas so for 2 years instead of a Christmas / Birthday present from her parents they replace an umbrella!
