Do you believe in the horoscope?

Just trying to work out how many people believe in it? My DS's friend and her family are really into it and often make comments based on their star signs. I have already mentioned in passing that we don't. My DS is 7 and we've never talked about it (there is also a language barrier, the friend's first language is my DS's second language so he doesn't know the actual terms). So when the friend talks about it, my DS either ignores is or if he does hear it, he doesn't understand it. When I first mentioned to her that we don't follow/believe in it, she was shocked. But yesterday she was saying things along the lines of "don't get a (specific star sign) angry"...and I honestly didn't know what to say...so I just let it slide...WWYD? I don't want to offend her or her mother ...but I find it so weird...

It's absolute, unscientific nonsense.

I know that a lot of people read daily horoscopes for fun but can't fathom how anyone can take them seriously.

AxolotlOnions · 06/05/2023 06:20

It's utter bullshit and I'm not sure I could be friends with someone who believes in it. But then, that's such a thing Taurus to say!

Dontsparethehorses · 06/05/2023 06:21

I don’t believe it but I would let a teenage child who was saying things they’d heard from a friend slide. I don’t believe it will hurt/ harm/ do anything through them saying it! Not making anyone angry is a good thing for example!

No I don't. How can everyone born around the same time as you be going through the same experience? They are very generally written so you could apply it to your life in some way, if you really wanted to believe it was true.

Dwightlovesmichael · 06/05/2023 06:36

It’s utter bullshit.

But I read them and cling onto any hope they can bring me. My life is fucking bleak and one struggle after another. I pour through monthly horoscopes and cling to any bit of hope.

It’s bollocks though.

SilentHedges · 06/05/2023 07:07

It's bullshit, and I'm about to provide anecdotal factual EVIDENCE.

My OH is a journalist/writer. He used to do a lot of contract work, mainly as a sub editor, for a lot of big magazines. One is a womens fashion & beauty magazine, very well known. He was asked by this magazine to fill in for the woman who wrote the star signs column, as she was off. He was told "Just rotate what's been written before around different signs, that's what we do". I.e. Cancer is unlikely to read Sagittarius or Virgo wouldn't read Pisces, to know what's been written in the past columns. So he used the old text for various signs, and applied them to others, and added some of his own billshit for entertainment.

AceofPentacles · 06/05/2023 07:12

"Star sign horoscopes" are bullshit but horoscopes relating to your personal natal chart are far more accurate. But if you don't believe just ignore, like you would do for anyone else's wacky beliefs <cough> religion

littleripper · 06/05/2023 07:14

A friend from Uni's first job was writing them for magazines. She just made it all up according to a formula. It's nonsense at it's best, harmful scamming at it's worst.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 06/05/2023 07:16

Of course it's nonsense but as nonsense goes it's fairly harmless.

Whodunitme · 06/05/2023 07:16

I used to work at a local newspaper....NO!😂

JustCri · 06/05/2023 13:35

Your messages are filling me with hope for humanity...I still don't know exactly how to respond to DS' friend...I'm going to keep ignoring them for now...eventually I will probably have to explain to him what she's talking about and he tends to have a very direct way of saying things...😅
