How are you getting ready for summer?

Every year I see threads asking how people prepare for winter and always find something to try to look forward to the season change. I’m not someone who prefers one season, there’s things I like and dislike with them all but I do find the winter threads get me out of the mindset of ‘it’s going to be gloomy and cold’ to ‘it’ll be lovely having this new scent/candles lit/to read this book’.

With summer allegedly approaching, what things do you do to get ready for it and look forward to? (I understand everyone has different perspectives/disposable income/lifestyles I’m interested in hearing them all 😀)

Begging the electrician to come round and fit my ceiling fans 🤣

If it looks like we'll get a dry spell, and I have time, I should really sand and treat the wooden garden furniture. But, I live in NE England, so it may not get warm enough...

Summer? N.E, I'm still waiting for spring to kick in. It rained so much last night it was like the house was being fed through a car wash.

😂😂😂 good luck!

I do need to invest in a few good fans for those days when it’s uncomfortably hot! I seem to leave it until it’s too hot by which point everyone has sold out of anything more powerful than a gnats cough 🙄

I've been getting the garden ready. Clearing out stuff that had died back, weeding, jet washing, paintings, and planting. Once the garden is looking tidy (and green) again, it feels like I'm ready for Summer. Ditto getting DCs' size up clothes out of the loft, clearing the outgrown and clearly Wintery stuff out of their wardrobes, and filling the gaps with the new items.

@FourTeaFallOut, it was really warm in my back garden for about 25 mins this afternoon. That may have been spring, straight on to autumn now 😭🍁🍂

I also must go through clothes in the wardrobes and re-think my footwear choices! That’s 1st on my list. 2nd will be sorting my feet out so they’re at least presentable in something other than boots and thick socks!

Think we’ve only had a few minutes so far so I’m hoping we’ve got a few more minutes to go between now and autumn 😂

I may also look for some fragrant flowers for tubs for the front garden this year. Ones that don’t need a lot of attention because I love watering things and pottering in the garden of an evening but I’m useless at remembering to do it 🤦‍♀️ Also, need to be sturdy enough for the occasional football to hit them.

I have just ordered some plants for the garden, lavender, iris and hydrangeas arriving tomorrow then just have to motivate myself to plant them and clear some weeds first.

Also just joined a swimming pool and going swimming few times a week.

Bedding to non fleece.

Had a bbq the other day though next 14 days are forecasting rain here.

And hoovering a lot as our big floofy Maine Coon is molting.

CybermanAshad · 05/05/2023 23:43

I spent all day laying in the garden today. It was lovely. I fell asleep on the grass and woke up so hot I had to roll into the shade. Think it's going to rain tomorrow though :(

But yes, preparing for summer for us would be getting the gardens nice, weeding, sweeping, hosing down garden furniture. Also sorting feet out, painting toe nails, shaving legs and making sure I've got sandals, dresses, shorts and skirts. Still have two fans from previous summer so will make sure they're ready. Suncream in the cupboard and sun hat for DS. Hay-fever tablets, bite and sting cream. Ice creams and ice in the freezer.

Starting to get the garden in order, general tidy up. Digging out and washing the garden furniture, which has been in the garage over the winter. Putting the winter clothes and boots away and bringing out the summer clothes and sandals. Getting my feet presentable and painting my toenails for being on display. Other things still to do beyond that.
