Constant colds - can the GP do anything?

From Sep 22 until Jan 23 my DS who is 12 had 8 horrendous colds with a hacking cough. Not just a runny nose but full on sore throat, runny eyes, too unwell to go to school. He had so much time off school.

The GP ordered blood tests in Jan which showed low vitamin D and prescribed vitamin D tablets which he took religiously. He had 2 months being well again but we’re now back in the cycle of hell with his second stinking cold since April. Can currently hear him hacking away and he said his throat is agony.

I literally can’t bear this. Realistically is it worth taking him to the GP again, what can they even do? After he took the prescription vitamin d his bloods were taken again and I was told they were at normal levels again.

And yet it’s started up again. I can’t bear him being so unwell all the time. He’s been eating well, plenty of fruit and veg and he says no one at school constantly has a cold so why does he all the time?

How long was he on the vitamin D for?
Did he have his levels retested? It’s usually around 3-6 months to be retested. It wouldn’t hurt to take an OTC vitamin D or multivitamin.
Hows his hand hygiene?

I bought the highest strength vitamin d I could buy and he’s taking that. Hand hygiene is ok. He had Covid 3 times and ever since constant colds like he has no immune system.

My teenage son is exactly the same and has been all his life. We finally got to understand why as he has very low IGA. A blood test showed this. There’s nothing that can be done unfortunately. Although the paediatrician did recommend fit for school probiotic’s and vit c/d and zinc. These have all made a difference. I think Covid is definitely knocking out immune systems in some people.

I would talk to the GP. Only the GP will
Know if they can do anything. You are clearly concerned (as would I be)

I swear by Echinacea and zinc to (re) build immune system after infections
