How do you get over embarrassment?

I've done something embarrassing and my brain is tormenting me, over and over! How do you stop the endless self-torture when you've done or said something daft?

I keep having mortifying flashbacks .... Anyone know how to change your name and profession over the weekend? Anyone at all?

Maybe it would help to talk about or write it down in detail. Once you get over the initial mortified feeling talking it through can help. I found it helped to write it all down when I totally humiliated myself a few months ago. I didn't stop feeling embarrassed immediately but I found I was no longer trying to push the feeling down. Now when the thought comes into my head I can push it away easily because I feel like I know the event inside out of you see what I mean. There's nothing more to be gained from thinking about it so I can shrug it off.

Ahh when embarrassment pushing down to deep shame 🤣 I can relate.

I often find analysing why I feel like I feel helps! Once I’ve named how I feel I can usually start to work past it. Sometimes I still wake up in a sweat thinking about something I did about 7 years ago 🤣😂
