Window shopping houses I can’t afford (pipe dreaming)

Anyone like to look up houses for sale they know they can’t afford? Just pipe dreaming?
I love to just think of what house we could get if we won the lottery… or even half a million lol.
I would have a utility room and a lovely spare room for my parents. Somewhere big enough I can easy have all the family round for dinner but not too big that I spend all my time cleaning. DH can have a man cave/gym room and the kids can have their own bedrooms and a lego room lol.
A kitchen big enough for a table, or even a dining room.

An en suite for us and my parents but not for the kids.. They can’t have en suites. Too much cleaning lol.
big garden is always a bonus but not too big and something simple. I hate gardening lol
maybe I can have craft hut :)
i feel a bit silly writing this but does anyone spend time pipe dreaming like this?!

Totally. I want a swimming pool (obvs), DH wants a garage. I’ve also hankered after a laundry shoot for some reason, and that of course should go to a proper laundry room.

Tigertiger2022 · 05/05/2023 15:22

@Saffronn
oh I think a laundry shoot would be great in the kids bedroom and/or bathroom! They seem incapable of picking it off the floor and into the basket lol

Oh I've seen the house I'm having when I win the lottery! I've assigned the bedrooms and made some improvements to the garden...
I only need an extra million and it's mine!

If you won the lottery though you could have a cleaner surely

Oh yes but I’m going to need more than half a million, although I guess I could spend the equity from my current property on renovations so it might just be doable……

Theunamedcat · 05/05/2023 15:48

Yes! I have small win houses (like the one I'm in but owned not rented) and big win houses!

Gymtastic · 05/05/2023 15:53

I do the opposite, I dream of improvements I can make to mine, so I think of all the things I could do , decor, furniture, outside, etc, other peoples just provide inspiration for that…

I love a good mooch on rightmove. I'm always looking at houses way above our budget and see if we can fit in them, or what work we'd need to do in order for them to work for us. We do have quite specific needs though as two of my kids are disabled adults and I dream of enough rooms for both their bedrooms to be on the ground floor, with space for them to have art studios to work in. We also need a good size bedroom for us as I am fed up of squeezing past the end of our bed, and an en-suite would be a dream. We need another bedroom upstairs for our ds when he and his gf come to stay and a nice west ish facing garden, with a river at the bottom.
Not asking for much really😉

I often look on RM. A couple of years ago a manor house very close to us came on the market and I drove DH mad about it. It had a huge entrance hall and a staircase with a gallery on top. I so wanted that house. The person who bought it to renovate has a web site about it and I sometimes pop on to see how far they have got. I could just imagine a ten foot Xmas tree in that hall.

IHeartGeneHunt · 05/05/2023 16:43

Oh yes. Most days. I really like looking up the huge country houses.

drumandthebass · 05/05/2023 16:47

Yes, I do this a lot. I love looking at the floor plans and seeing how I would rejig the house to suit my requirements😀

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/05/2023 16:50

Just as long as you restrict yourself to Rightmove - and don't book a 6-hour in-person slot and turn up with your flask and clipboard, like in the other thread Grin

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 05/05/2023 17:12

I mainly browse houses I could afford (or very nearly), but in completely impractical locations.

ASGIRC · 05/05/2023 17:15

I bought my flat a couple of years ago.
I currently have the RM equivalent website open, and have been looking at houses in the millions, because, obviously, Im winning the euro millions tonight!!!

I do it a lot!

I want a pool, at least 3 bed, living space big enough to accomodate my whole family (main issue with my house! I can fit 16 people, but not 30+, like we can at my moms!) and some friends.

I dont want a house, but a flat (there are very few houses in my city and in areas I dont know well), but Id like a bit of a terrace or balcony, to grow some veg!

AuroraForever · 05/05/2023 17:19

I do this a lot. All I’ve ever wanted is a home of our own and now too old to have one so I have two levels of looking. First level is the everyday, regular terraced three bedders. Top level looking is ridiculous mansions!
