Is Lobelia plant toxic to humans ?

Ds has just eaten 3 small leaves (3×3mm?) of a lobelia bedding plant as ge was helping me get it out of the boot after a B&Q trip.
He's 18 6ft 2 & about 14stones. Had a full stomach when he ate it. He's just googled & found something that says it's toxic. He's got ASD so is now mithering.
Does anyone know of I need to take him to A&E ? (obvs usual caveat of 'best call 111 to be sure').

www.healthline.com/nutrition/lobelia#dosage-side-effects

Toxic doses at end.

Thanks. It's Lobelia erinus which is a different kind ? RHS says lobelia can be harmful except L. erinus.

No idea. I can only google same as you.

Call 111 as we have no poison helpline in the UK.

18 years old and he ate some leaves off a plant at B&q?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/05/2023 21:26

I would just call 111. It's taken a long time to get any answers so wouldn't you know by now if he hasn't had any ill effects. Why did he eat them?

tshirthunter · 04/05/2023 21:29

Gardeners world say lobelia Erin's is not toxic to anyone or anything. Id imagine if it was so toxic that three small leaves could harm an adult it would carry a warning and parents would have pulled it out of gardens for years. Grin

medianewbie · 04/05/2023 21:35

111 advised Lobelia is toxic but only in larger doses.

@IndiaPaleAle I bought the plants, he & his sister were helping me unload the car. Whikst I took a food bag in, he pulled some leaves off & ate them 'to make his sister laugh'. Then googled the plant name & panicked when he saw the word 'toxic'. He's ASD & has clinical anxiety. I looked plant up on RHS poison list & was reassured but he was still mothering (as by this point was his sister also ASD). So, I phoned for Official Advice (he's very rules based) which has reassured him.
Frustrating, but all's well.
