How long did it take?
My dad has had his passport stolen on a holiday with friends. Applied for emergency passport lunchtime today. He really wants to get home by tomorrow eve if possible. Gov passport website says 48hrs though but wondering if this can be quicker?

Depending on where he is. Dh had his done in 6 hours for a return flight home the same day. This was in Switzerland

It depends where he is.
If he has a copy - photograph- of the details page, some countries allow travel in emergencies.

We had to renew whilst we were expats one year, took about 1 week to get the passports back.

I hope it's sorted soon.

OK thanks
He's in Spain. Fortunately have been able to get a scan of his passport. Phone was taken too so all a bit of a nightmare.

Mine was stolen on a Sunday and the embassy wouldn't see me until Monday but when I saw them they gave it to me instantly. I had to arrive with a photo and money.

I was given mine at the embassy. It did take a couple of days to get an embassy appointment though, because it was a public holiday weekend.

DH & DD had to get them in Paris a few years ago. From memory it took about 4 hours. Maybe it was quicker because they were stolen on a weekday and I was able to send passport copies/photos & permission for DD to travel from home

Does anyone know if an emergency passport has a new number? So will his flight details need updating etc or do they use your existing passport no?

It will be a one off passport that can only be used for his flight home.
Ours were taken off us when we landed in the uk.
So yes it will be a different number because his old one will now be cancelled, he will need to get a new passport when he gets home, but because it's a temporary one we didn't need to update the flight re passport numbers etc..

It's a one off passport and is taken off them when they landed back in the UK. I had to detail the flights that my DD was booked to travel on because she was under 16 at the time.

They both had to apply for new passports when they got back to the UK.
