Mx5 or Audi TT? Soft or hard top?

If I was going to treat myself to an entirely impractical car?

I know they're not in the same price range, but either would be OK.

Or something else similar?

I do like an Mx5 but the new ones are no where near as good as they used to be. TT's are nice, though a little commonplace now. I'd save up for a Porsche Boxster.

I don’t see the point in a toy which isn’t a convertible. Always a convertible.

I’ve owned some very nice cars, but oddly the one which has hung around the longest is my current ‘54 plate 3.2l TT with an aftermarket spoiler and body kit. It’s just a lovely drive and incredibly comfortable.

I’ve also had an MX5, which I found a little underpowered and a bit clunky. Second favourite was my Lotus Elise (though a very different price point.) Also recommend the Smart Roadster, a whole lot of fun to throw around the roads because it’s so light.

My MX5 was a fun drive and really stuck to the road.
I had an 02 TT and a 07 TT, both roadsters. Loved them both. I might have gone for a Boxster with a bit more cash.

I loved the old MX5s. The new design is a bit boring.

I love, love, love my wee MX5 soft top. It's great for scooting around town, not so great on the open road, it’s not really a sports car as such. I’d like a Porsche next for the sheer power.

A Boxster, but out of those 2 the MX5. TTs are just so dull to drive, might as well have a Golf. The MX5 is a proper sports car albeit not that quick, but engaging and enjoyable to hoon around in with the newer 2 litre engine and LSD.

Nissan 350Z 🥰

I'd go with an older model MX5, I really miss mine. Great fun to drive.

Same! Totally impractical but I’d give anything to drive it now. Maybe I’ll get one when I give up work and no longer have kids and musical instruments to ferry around…

See I quite like the look of the current MX5 with the retractable hard top....

Mine had a hard top that you could remove for the summer months (though only really handy if you had room to store it). It was gunmetal grey, tan leather heated seats - god I am just reminiscing now!

CosyFanTucci · 03/05/2023 21:33

Boxster is the correct answer. But out of those, the MX5 is more fun to drive.

Purpledressredhat · 03/05/2023 21:47

Like both but prefer the MX5 - fun to drive, cool looking, not quite as common. I prefer my Mini Cooper S convertible though. A great wee car all round.

BMW Z4? I’ve had MX-5s, the Z4 and have a Mercedes 2 seater and the z4 was the best.
