If somebody says 'I'll send it shortly'... how long?

Random question here. If somebody said to you 'I'll be sending you the document shortly' - what timeline would you expect?

Waiting for something important to come through and was told it would be through shortly - a day ago. I always assumed shortly would be a couple of hours or so?

Curious to know others thoughts.

I’d expect it same day, within an hour or two max.

@greensquirrel this is what I thought too!

I'd be chasing after 24hrs.

Within a couple of hours I’d say

Agree that I'd expect it within a few hours, end of the day at least (assuming work and electronic communication). But I'd also expect a normal person to just send a quick 'oh, could you send through that thing' message and not start a thread on MN. The person probably was busy and just forgot and will send it with an apology if you're not an arse about it.

Work document - 3/4 hours
Personal document- 1 or 2 weeks
