Pre fab/non standard construction houses… are they a no go?

There’s a couple of lovely spacious homes gone up for sale in our areas but in the listing they are described as pre fab and steel construction.

I can’t find much out online about this but we’re first time buyers and wanting a relatively easy experience of buying our first home. Would you stay clear of this type of house no matter what?

I would automatically steer clear though, even though there are plenty that have lasted with no issues. There were some near my DGM that were build just after the war, they were still there and looking fine around 20 years ago.
I just don’t know enough about them and any issues that may arise.

The issue with them is it can be harder or impossible to get a mortgage on them, so you’d need to find out who will give you a mortgage ion them... and they’ll be harder to sell on as well.

I think you can pay to get them upgraded but it's not cheap, not astronomical either so it is doable. It's not as hard to get a mortgage on them than it used to be. I probably wouldn't bother personally just due to how much more difficult they are to sell, it's just too much stress for a first home. My friend bought one as a forever home though and got an absolute bargain, as she won't be selling it made sense for her to get the most space and garden for her money.
