Painful eye socket

My eye socket is suddenly painful around the outside of one eye - as if I've been punched at the side.

I've not hurt it, it just started to hurt.

What could it be? An infection? What can I do about it?

Any redness in your eye? Watering? Have you been abroad very recently ?

No trips abroad.

My actual eye is fine, no redness etc, it's just the area around my eye.
