Is this normal procedure?

For the very first time in 6 years I stopped contact between DS and his dad due to safeguarding concerns. I spoke to children services and they said it didn't meet threshold. I spoke to the police as he was harassing me and disclosured what my DS told me to them and they said they would do a child assessment. Still awaiting that though. I updated the school on the situation and informed them I had a domestic violence advisor too. I've just found out that the school have spoke with ex about the safeguarding concerns. Is this normal protocol? Surely the child assessment should be done by the multi agency team that the police said they would do. I feel like by the school going to ex they have made the situation worse and of course ex is going to deny. I know narcissist is thrown around now adays but he has all traits and is text book narc.
Now I feel I can't tell the school stuff for them making the situation worse
