Friday night went shopping
Partner had the job of putting it away
He didn't close the door properly
I didn't notice for nearly 24 hours
The shelf was out a bit so it didn't close
Things in freezer (all bought frozen )
Chicken Kiev's
Peas /peppers
Fish cakes /fingers
McCain's fries
Party food (halloumi fries /spring rolls )
Macaroons
Sausages (bought frozen )

Is anything still okay to eat ?
Or do I bin it all ?

Were they defrosted?

Were they still cold with ice crystals?

Still solid - keep in freeer
Defrosted but cold - move to fridge and eat
Warm - bin

Check the temp, anything -12 or higher put in the fridge to defrost

You can buy stuff from t he supermarket that tells you if it can be frozen - this is the same. If its been in the freezer for 24 hours and isn't above room temperature it’ll be safe to re freeze.

I did a degree in Home Economics back in the day. One of the things we researched is the effect on chicken of freezing / defrosting / re freezing. We thawed and refroze chicken thighs 10 times. Each time we checked for bacteria. There was no significant increase above a safe level. As long as its cooked thoroughly it will be fine.

@Soontobe60 thats the food safety standard- from someone who works in a restaurant with a broken freezer yesterday 😂

Been there, done that still alive and kicking

It will be fine just make sure it's thoroughly cooked and piping hot

emmathedilemma · 02/05/2023 14:31

anything vegetable based I’d just refreeze
