Milk in coffee/ fasting

So, I'm trying to kickstart my fasting regimen in the hope of losing a few stone. I did fasting years ago and it seemed to work but what I want to know is do any of you have just one coffee in the morning with a splash of milk? I absolutely no that the hard core way to fast is by only drinking water and black coffee but I was wondering if anyone has had results with just one coffee with milk before opening window.

My schedule will be 1-6

I do and always have done, doesn’t hinder the loss for me as long as I allow for it calorie wise. These days I only drink coffee and water until my 3hr window where I have 2 protein shakes on fast days. I’ve found it works better for me now I’m older whereas before I’d eat a small meal in the evening instead.
I’ve been doing it on and off for 10 years and I’ve definitely noticed a change in the losses now I’m in my 40s!

That's great to hear. So on your fast days you only drink your shakes? I am finding being in my 40s practically impossible to lose weight so I'm hoping fasting doesn't let me down.

If you have any tips you'd like to share, I'm all ears 😊

I lost 3 stone doing 16:8, but allowing myself milk in coffee and tea. I am now keeping weight steady, but still mostly eat 16:8 because it suits me. I did try to ditch the milk but that's a nut i cannot crack, so I decided not to sweat the small stuff. I've succeded in what I set out to do and I feel great. Good luck 🙂

That's great to know. I feel I could really make this work if I could incorporate a coffee in the morning. Just being nosey but did you have more that one coffee before opening your window or just the one?

I probably had a couple of ccups of tea and coffee. Especially in the first few days, when it helped getting used to it. But I think what also clearly helped was mostly focusing on eating healthier. I eat plenty of veg anyway, but I mostly completely cut refined carbs and cut down on alcohol. I was pretty strict at home, but I didn't calorie count and had allowed room for e.g. the odd trip to the pub including pie and chips or a burger. I figured long and steady wins the race - which it did. It did take a while. I lost probably around two pounds a month on average. I was (and am) very middle aged and peri and find weight loss waayyy harder than 20 years ago!

Also, was eating
12-8 as a rule, but if I was starving, I would eat earlier, but if not hungry I would eat later. However I never eat after 8 pm. Except on very rare occasions if out for dinner with friends etc

Try almond milk, very low in cals, no lactose.

For me fasting isn't just about losing weight, it's also helping my microbiome and encouraging autophagy (the body's system of cleaning out dead cells etc). I want to reduce inflammation and diseases that go along with it such as Alzheimer's. It seems a shame to negate these benefits of fasting by having milk in drinks - it's just a few hours and I've honestly grown to enjoy black coffee and redbush tea.

yipitsher · 02/05/2023 08:07

@CosyCoffee you're so right. When I fasted before I was strict and only had my black coffe/ water. I know this will give me maximum results so that's what I'll for tomorrow. I've really noticed I'm getting a lot of joint aches and pains so the benefits of fasting will serve me well. Tomorrow I'll dig into my 'intense mode'

I do 16:8 daily and I have got a really nice green tea which I have in the morning with some fennel seeds and a cardamom pod in the strainer with it. I find it enjoyable and it gets me through - and I'm a person who doesn't generally like green tea, and never would have drunk it before. Personally I wouldn't have milk because I'm in it for the health benefits mainly.

SallySailor · 02/05/2023 08:42

You are right there. What I am trying to do is to wait until 10am before I have my coffee. The Zoe healt study seem to think the sweet spot is a longer eating window ( 8 hrs as far as I recall?) than I eat within, so I figured I could try that as a compromise for the coffee. I'm not being very successful at the moment though, even though I love green and herbal teas. Maybe this thread will give me resolve! 🙂
