Would you rather save for a better house or live better day to day?

Just thinking to myself theoretical if I had say a 100k job would I rather live in a bigger house and have bigger bills or live better day to day.

And I think I'd live better day to day as whilst I look at the fancy houses online I feel content where I live which is a normal 3 bedroom house.

I was wondering what others would choose?

Live better day to day. I've got absolutely no desire for a big house, to me it just means more expense and more rooms to clean! I actually rent a housing association flat so I probably wouldn't even leave here, I'd just pour plenty of money into my pension.

I chose living better day to day, when my grandparents died my parents gave me the money from the sale of GPS house on 0% interest loan so I had the option of buying a small 2 bed flat for me and DD or use it as a deposit on a bigger, nicer home. I pay them back at a minimal amount and this means I've been able to pay for renovations and can still take DD out on city breaks and pay for her extracurriculars etc and has given me stability and security I would never have managed on my own.

Agree with Beez we do own our own home but have never felt the need to buy anything 'bigger' just for the sake of it. It's paid off now as DH has been able to retire early and I can work, by choice, part time.
