It’s a big birthday for me…. And I’ve asked for a carpet cleaner. No budget! Recommendations pls!

Turning 40 and my ex husband (with whom I remain close to) has asked what I would like “from the children” ie children are tween/early teen so no chance to buy anything themselves.

I would love a carpet cleaner. Ex is very high earner and has said not to worry about budget.

so please hit me with recommendations!

TIA

I've got a wet Henry (blue one) and would not recommend because it's a massive ballache to drag around, although effective cleaning. I nearly bought an upright vax thing and wish I had, so hopefully you'll get some recommendations for that type of model. Beware dalek-looking vacuums with long hoses is my only advice here, sorry.

Happy birthday!

PartnersInCrime · 30/04/2023 06:57

We have a Vax

WeedKnife · 30/04/2023 07:01

We have the upright vax. Love it! Easy to use and dries really well too.

HidingFromDD · 30/04/2023 07:08

Which suggest vax Platinum Power Max ECB1SPV1 at £249 which scored 80% or bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro at £229 which also scored 80%. Apparently the vax is better at stain removal and getting to the edge of the carpet but the bissell is easier to use and great for muddy dog prints

As there are multiple children, I recommend that the carpet cleaner is from one of them, and the other one(s) get you something else a bit nicer and more fun.

Like a holiday/weekend away/spa day, shoes/handbag/jewellery or sports/hobby equipment.

I am looking for pretty lightweight.

are these Vacs on fairly lightweight and which one you specially recommend? The BISSELL one recommended upthread looks brilliant but big and very heavy!

We have a Bissell. And a dog with a sensitive stomach. It's been the best purchase ever.

Nsws2015 · 30/04/2023 09:41

I have 2 bissells, a big upright that I've had over 10 years and is still going strong and I bloody love it, I won't hesitate to get another when it does finally die. It is heavy ish, but once you get going with it you don't notice it so much, Its dealt with paint spills from kids, drinks being spilt, vomit situations etc.

Then I have the bissell spot clean for stairs and sofas etc and that's great too. I also highly recommend the screw fix carpet shampoo, huge 5ltr bottle and cleans just as well as the branded stuff!

Bamboozleme · 30/04/2023 09:51

Please recommend which BISSELL?!!

We've got this one which may not be what you are looking for but the quality, reliability and cleaning power all great.

Bamboozleme · 30/04/2023 10:19

Looks great but very heavy and big and I’d like for regular use

thinking the Bissell HydroWave

They don't make my version anymore from a quick look, but it's a pro heat one and I definitely will be buying another of the pro heats when it dies. There used to be one that had a little pod on the front that came off to do stairs/sofas etc, they don't seem to do that anymore either....that was the one I wanted to 'upgrade' to. I do love my carpet cleaner, the satisfaction of seeing it suck all the dirt out and I used to do before/after pics as well (I'm sad I know 🤣)

I have the green George hover from the Henry range he is great can be used to clean carpets etc, and as a normal hover if needed. He is not heavy at all. It comes with two hose so 1 for dry and 1 for wet and loads of accessories

CrotchetyQuaver · 30/04/2023 11:50

Bissell carpet cleaner has been a brilliant machine at our house. Yes they're quite big, any machines going to be quite heavy with a gallon of cleaning solution in it. I don't think a lightweight model is going to be up to the job. Think how big and heavy the hire ones are

Good point

but I was thinking I’d use regularly. Once a week kind of scenario so lightweight appeals otherwise becomes a ‘Big Thing’

I'd be asking for a weekend away with a friend and for ex to have the kids.

I do that fairly regularly anyway!

Tbh I don't find it that heavy, I tilt it when I filled it so it's on its wheels to get it from my kitchen to the living room, the water tank comes out to empty/refill. It's not light, the newer pro heats look like they'd be lighter than mine tbh. I tend to stick some music on and call it my workout when I use it, I've been a bit lazy recently and not done my carpets for a few months....they're definitely ready!
