Friendships 11/12 year olds

Someone tell me this is normal?

Dd went to a very large primary - loved it and was v popular and happy.

Then they all moved up to secondary in august and it was fine but in the last few months they've drifted apart and there's also been some nasty messages from existing friends and new friends and fake meet ups etc. Dd chats to a lot of people on school but now basically has only one friend to socialise with outside of school. It's really knocked her confidence and o hate seeing her like this. She's very sociable and loved school until now.

So basically - this is normal right? Ds went through similar but he's more antisocial so wasn't that bothered. It'll all work out won't it?

Very, very, very normal for friendships from Primary to drift when they move to secondary.
They've usually gone from being in the same class with 29 other people for all the time they are in lessons, to being split up from those people they have known for 7 years, and the chance to spend time with lots of new, different people.
It is fine and normal for friendships to change.

They will potentially also change when they go into groupings for GCSE subjects in Yr9 or 10, and they will shift around again when they go into 6th form.

The healthiest thing to do (IMO) is to do things out of school as well - Guides, Scouts, Youth Groups, sports Groups, orchestra, drama, whatever she is in to, so she has plenty of friends and isn't reliant on any one particular group.

She does dance , guides and gymnastics but no new friends from those really. Or only ones she sees at the classes but not outwith those.

I'm presuming her classes will change again in a few weeks when she moves up to s2. It's so horrible seeing her hating school.
