If you could retrain in any field…

… what would it be?

I enjoy many aspects of my job which is in a very specific field (self employed). I’m also very aware that I have another 30-35 years of my working life ahead of me and am increasingly wondering whether I would still want to be doing the same job later in my life, especially having to negotiate self assessment and private pensions, etc. At the same time, I have no idea what else would do!

I'm curious to know what you would all retrain as, given the chance.

Also open to anyone that has indeed retrained (kudos to you!!)

I'd love to be a speech and language therapist.

So much demand and you would really make a difference.

Audiologist. The highlight of my day would be clearing wax.

I love writing and I’ve sometimes fancied journalism, but it’s so extremely competitive I’ve always cast it aside!

Midwifery.

I would have been a florist straight from school

Clothing designer

Meteorology

Train driver

Marine biologist

I'd love to make costumes for stage/film or be a writer.

CID in police force. Anything to do with forensics.

Pilot

Pathologist.

Im about to take semi-retirement so it's probably a bit late for me but there are two areas that appeal to me otherwise: music therapy and music examiner. I got as far as the interview stage to be an examiner but no further in 2019 but no further - it is a highly competitive field so I felt it was an achievement to get to that point. Then Covid came and turned everything upside down and I never got round to reapplying. I have had an absolute blast of a career as a piano, violin and viola teacher and accompanist, though. My daughter is on track to becoming a music therapist, so I shall be very interested to follow her career from the sidelines.
