Best credit card for collecting flight incentives/points

I’d love to fly business/first class, even just once. Now I could do it the traditional way and save I guess but I think even if I had the money I’d be thinking ‘well I could be sat 5 rows back and paid a third of the price to get to the same place’.

So I figure the next best way is perhaps getting a credit card to gather points to essentially get a ‘free’ upgrade. I understand other perks such as lounges might be available.

Can anyone give me any pointers or suggest what cards are best for this kind of thing?

I put every penny we spend on either BA or Virgin credit cards - pay it off in full every month so have never paid any interest. All my flights, hotels and costs for work go on the credit cards so points mount up quickly. Do do need a huge number for flight upgrades which are often only available on some flights z

BA Amex might be worth a shot, however you will be limited to BA flights as collecting avois when you spend on the card and there usually a bonus if you spend so much in the first few months
you can also collect avios thru the BA executive store for a lot of online shops

should make it clear, your not limited as such to BA flights when you spend avios, you can transfer the points to the likes of qatar airlines

i know on the BA amex if you spend 12k in a year you will get a companion vouicher for a free flight or a cheaper flight for 2, i got my friend and i to new york for 200£ plus avios

Have you looked on Martins Money Saving Expert website? Its got really good advice on this.

There is also a website called Head for Points which has lots of info too.

Ooh I will check out Martin Lewis and that other site thank you.

I need some kind of comparison table to explain in thicko’s terms what I can get with each card.

We've got the Virgin Atlantic credit card, which used to be good until Delta took over VA.
