Chicken thighs....Says on the packet a noticeable odour may be present on opening and it's because its vacuumed packed....but it should be fine...

But it smells so bad.
It's in date until 29/4/23

Should I cook it or chuck?
Am I gonna wreck dinner for 5 if I cook it and its bad? Gahhh!

Chicken usually smells grim on opening, it even warns you of that.

Leave it to air a few minutes and sniff test again

Twix42 · 28/04/2023 18:15

Its particularly grim ...
DD has had to leave the room lol

If it smells that bad I really wouldn't, and I am usually very blasé about these things.

If its that bad it needs to go in the bin

BertieBotts · 28/04/2023 18:20

Chicken often smells farty when you open it, that's normal.

If it smells sour then throw it away.

Twix42 · 28/04/2023 18:22

Think I'm gonna chuck it and use DD1s quorn fake chicken instead...

I still remember the time my dad mistakenly put some gone-off chicken in the oven. It was about 40 years ago and the recollection of the smell when he opened the oven still makes me feel ill.

Potterurotter · 28/04/2023 18:32

not chicken but the hello fresh beef mince consistency makes me want to vomit!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 28/04/2023 18:33

Yes it's the same with gousto and once you open the packet and let it air for five mins it is fine.

strawberryjeans · 28/04/2023 18:55

If in doubt, always use quorn! Quorn won’t harm

I like quorn personally but I can't abide food being wasted for no good reason :(

I know this is an old thread but my gosh, we had a delivery from HF on Monday, chicken dated until the 24th, opened the packet and I barely made it up the stairs to throw up. Horrid eggy smell and then followed with a sweaty vinegary smell. Straight in the bin!!
